The Art of Leather Care

Fine leather is a living material. With a little attention and the right habits, your Kanz Cairo piece will not simply last — it will grow more beautiful with use.

Routine Care To preserve its natural luster, wipe the leather gently with a soft, dry cloth to lift everyday dust. Keep it away from prolonged direct sunlight and artificial heat, which draw out the oils that keep the hide supple. Should it meet the rain, blot the moisture with a clean, absorbent cloth — never rub — and let it air-dry naturally, well away from any heat.

Periodic Nourishment To keep the leather supple and guard against drying, treat it every few months. With a soft cloth, work a small amount of neutral, premium leather conditioner into the grain in gentle circular motions. Let it rest and absorb for a few hours, then buff lightly to a quiet sheen.

Proper Preservation When the piece is at rest, store it in its Kanz Cairo dust bag. To help our bags hold their shape, fill the interior lightly with acid-free tissue paper or a soft, uncolored cloth. Never enclose leather in plastic — as a natural material, it must be allowed to breathe.

Attending to Imperfections

Minor scratches: warm the area gently with a clean fingertip. The natural oils from your skin are often enough to disperse a light mark and blend it back into the hide.

Water spots: if a droplet leaves a faint mark, lightly dampen the whole surrounding panel with a barely moist cloth, so the area dries evenly.

The Beauty of Patina Our leathers are made to age well. Untreated pieces evolve most freely — softening, deepening in tone, and gathering the small marks of daily use into a character that is yours alone. Sealed pieces change more slowly, resisting marks while warming gently over time. Neither is damage; it is patina — the quiet record of a piece well lived with.
